Are you colour blind?

Are you colour blind?

Colour blindness isn't usually seeing in black and white but a deficiency, often red-green, affecting 1 in 12 men vs. 1 in 200 women!

If you thought you were colour blind, here are some interesting facts about you will enjoy:

  • It's a deficiency, not typically total blindness: Most people with "colour blindness" have colour vision deficiency.
  • It's far more common in men: About 1 in 12 men (8%) have red-green colour blindness, compared to only 1 in 200 women, because the genes are on the X-chromosome.
  • It's often inherited from the mother: The most common type (red-green) is passed down from the mother who carries the gene on an X-chromosome to her sons.
  • It can develop later in life: While often genetic, it can be caused by aging, diseases, eye trauma, or certain medications.
  • Some see colours differently in each eye: A rare form, unilateral dichromacy means one eye sees colour normally while the other has a deficiency.

Now that you know, you will be less worried when you don't discern colours as others do!
